Sarteneja Fisher Fair 2019

The goal of the Education and Outreach Programme is to promote good stewardship of the natural resources of CBWS in stakeholder communities, and have Corozal Bay nationally recognized as an ecologically significant area.
Through this programme SACD targets educational activities towards fishermen and their families, schools, and tourists visiting the area. Not only is it essential to explain to our community members how they can make a difference, but why they should care about making a difference. Education is at the heart of behavioral and attitudinal changes from our community members, and the first step towards making a difference. SACD hopes that efforts for more effective education and outreach activities delivered across a diverse range of community, stakeholder, and industry members will lead to the community awareness and participation desired for the successful management of CBWS.

Annual Environmental Summer Camp 2019

SACD recognizes the importance of educating and training youth – the next generation of resource users and future leaders of our communities. For this reason, SACD continues to focus much of our efforts in engaging schools in three key stakeholder communities: Sarteneja, Chunox, and Copper Bank. By allowing our youth to participate in hands-on activities and learn from unique experiences, they form a meaningful connection to nature and gain a greater appreciation for the value of CBWS.

Presently, SACD continued to target key community sectors and raise awareness for CBWS. With the combination of school presentations, community events, and training sessions, SACD successfully engaged the diverse community surrounding CBWS and improved their understanding of why Corozal Bay is so special.
